Banh Cuon

Delicate steamed rice rolls filled with minced pork and mushrooms.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 150g minced pork
  • 50g wood ear mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • Fish sauce dipping sauce

Steps

  1. Stir-fry minced pork, mushrooms, and shallot until cooked; set aside.
  2. Whisk rice flour, cornstarch, and water into a thin batter.
  3. Ladle a thin layer of batter onto a cloth stretched over steaming water; cover and steam briefly until set.
  4. Lift off the thin sheet and place a spoonful of filling, then roll up gently.
  5. Repeat with remaining batter and filling.
  6. Serve with fish sauce dipping sauce and fried shallots.
