Gyudon
A quick, savory beef and onion rice bowl simmered in sweet soy sauce.
Ingredients
- 300g thinly sliced beef
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 cup dashi stock
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp mirin
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 bowls steamed rice
Steps
- Simmer dashi, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar with onion until softened.
- Add beef slices and simmer until just cooked, skimming any foam.
- Let the beef absorb the sauce for a few minutes over low heat.
- Spoon the beef, onion, and sauce over bowls of steamed rice.
- Serve hot, optionally topped with a raw or soft egg.
