Nasi Goreng

Indonesia's beloved fried rice, smoky and sweet from kecap manis.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked rice, cold
  • 2 eggs
  • 100g shredded chicken
  • 3 tbsp kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp shrimp paste (terasi)
  • Fried shallots and cucumber

Steps

  1. Blend garlic and shrimp paste into a paste, then fry in oil until fragrant.
  2. Add shredded chicken and stir briefly.
  3. Add rice and kecap manis, frying until well combined and slightly caramelized.
  4. Fry eggs separately, sunny-side up.
  5. Serve rice topped with a fried egg, fried shallots, and cucumber slices.
