Tangyuan
Sweet glutinous rice balls filled with black sesame paste, served in warm syrup.
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups glutinous rice flour
- Warm water as needed
- 1/2 cup black sesame paste
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp softened butter or lard
- 4 cups water with rock sugar and ginger
Steps
- Mix sesame paste, sugar, and butter into a firm filling; chill until firm, then roll into small balls.
- Knead glutinous rice flour with warm water into a smooth dough.
- Wrap dough around each sesame filling ball, sealing completely.
- Boil rock sugar and ginger in water to make a sweet syrup.
- Drop rice balls into boiling water and cook until they float.
- Serve the rice balls in bowls with the warm ginger syrup.
