Youtiao
Crispy Chinese fried dough sticks, the classic breakfast pairing for congee or soy milk.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Oil for deep frying
Steps
- Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add water and oil, knead into a smooth, slightly sticky dough.
- Cover and rest for 1 hour.
- Stretch dough into strips, pair two strips and press together lengthwise.
- Deep fry at 190C, turning often, until golden and puffed.
- Drain and serve hot.
